Rules and restrictions
The rules and restrictions that apply to events, Direct Ship and Direct Receive, the Event List and Shipments.
| Rule | Applies to | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Times are shown in UTC | Event List, Shipments, maps, diagrams, lists | The offset in parentheses is the zone the event was logged in. |
| Default time zone | Time Zone field | The account time zone, set on the Account tab (Organization Settings > Account). See Account settings. |
| Choose Products first | Add Events | Choosing a product after ticking an inbound shipment clears the tick. |
| Event type change | Add Events | Changing Event Type resets Location and Products. |
| One row per lot | Event List | A Transform shows as two rows. |
| Partial quantities | Aggregation, Decommission, Ship, Transform | Consume amount can be less than available. A Ship can use only part of a lot. |
| Observe quantity and Lot number | Observe | Observe can adjust a Lot's quantity, for example to re-weigh Lots as they are received or during stock taking. It does not change the Lot number: Observe is not used to change a Lot number to change a quantity. |
| Observe Business Step | Observe | The Business Step defaults to Packing (CBV) in Wholechain. You can change it to reflect why you are using Observe, such as Stock Taking or Temperature. |
| Whole container | Disaggregation | The whole container is unpacked; the Containers tab takes no quantity entry. |
| Containers tab not available | Transform, Decommission | The Containers tab cannot be used. Disaggregate the container first, then use the Lots tab. |
| Decommission Disposition | Decommission | A Disposition is required and is the only field that records why. There is no Reason field. |
| Receive and Direct Receive | Receive, Direct Receive | A Receive posted with Direct Receive does not require an earlier Ship. Direct Receive lets the receiving entity log its Receive before the Ship is posted. |
| Receive and Link Trace Info | Receive, Link Trace Info | When a Receive is linked with Link Trace Info, it requires a Ship event. A Ship is the only event type that can be linked to a Receive. This is how the supply chain logic is assembled. On a Receive, Link Trace Info lets you link upstream events that occurred with a date/time prior to the Direct Receive's date/time. |
| Shared Location | Ship, Receive | A shared Location can be used as a destination Location on Ship events and as an origin Location on Receive events. |
| SSCC | Aggregation, Direct Ship | 18 digits. |
| Link Trace Info | Direct Ship | Earlier events must supply the same items and lots, in an equal or greater quantity, at the Direct Ship origin, at least 1 second before the Direct Ship. |
| Direct Ship visibility | Direct Ship | Shows as an Outbound Ship Event in the Outbound Shipments table (Shipments > Outbound) until linked; then also a Ship row in the Event List. Adding Trace Info to a Direct Ship in the Outbound tab lets you post events that occurred with a date/time prior to the Direct Ship's date/time. |
| Direct Receive visibility | Direct Receive | A Receive row in the Event List at once; shows as an Inbound Shipment (Shipments > Inbound), where the row menu offers Link Trace Info. |
| Geocoordinates | Map | Location coordinates take precedence over address fields. |
| Fixed event type | Direct Receive and Direct Ship started from Shipments | The New Inbound Shipment button on Inbound and the New Outbound Shipment button on Outbound open Add Events with Event Type fixed to Receive or Ship. It cannot be changed there; use Add Events on the Events page to choose the type. See Direct Ship and Direct Receive. |
| Remove Event | Event List row menu | Removes the most recent event on a lot or serial. It fails if later events used that lot or serial, or items, lots or serials created from it. Find the last event in the chain and remove events in reverse order back to the mistake, remove the mistaken event, then re-run the events with the correct information. |
| Bulk Delete | Event List | Every event in the supply chain must be included. It fails if any event in the chain is left out. |
| Undo Receive | Inbound row menu | Removes the Receive event and returns the record to the Inbound Shipments tab to be received again. |
| External Locations | Add Events | Events can be recorded at Locations of Trade Partners that are not connected. |
