| Term | Meaning |

| AI | GS1 Application Identifier: a number that says what a barcode value means (for example 10 is batch or lot). |
| Collector | Barcode mode that builds the barcode from a list of AIs. |
| Design Editor | Where templates are laid out. |
| Field Editor | Where a label is linked to a Trade Item and filled in. |
| GTIN | Global Trade Item Number. |
| KDE | Key Data Element: a value stored on a Trade Item or event. |
| Label Entry | The operator form used to fill in and print a label. |
| Serialization | Printing a run of labels with an incrementing AI 21 value. |
| Template | A reusable label design. |
